The Co-incidence of Tall Ships

Today one of the bloggers put up a post about the tall ships in Baltimore. This wonderful post with pictures can be seen at

Her post triggered memories of my own daughter’s experiences on a tall ship at the age of 16. With the Youth Sailing Trust she was able to take part in a section of the annual Tall Ships Race. Sailing out of Vigo in Spain they ran into Force 10 gales and a 2 day storm. Apparently all of the youngsters on board spent those few days hanging over the sides not feeling very well. I can only imagine how horrible the experience was for the permanent crew on board.

By co-incidence today there was a beautiful tall ship sailing with most of her sails deployed off of the Dorset coast. It was a wonderful sight to behold.

Sailing has been so much a part of my past with all of its joys and trials. I have spent more hours going into wind bouncing in the waves than I care to remember. Fortunately I am one of those lucky few who rarely suffers sea sickness. Having said that I was not on a Tall Ship in a Force 10!

  1. Thank you for the shout out! I love synchronicities like this. I never thought such an atypical post for me would strike a chord for a reader as it did—and to have a tall ship pass that reader on the same day on the other side of the Atlantic.

Of course, the instantaneous communication allowed by the internet is a stark contrast to the historic ships!
