My childhood passed in a series of moves- from one location to another and between continents – meaning that with lots of new schools, I had to make all of the emotional adjustments required to overcome a natural shyness. From an early age I read anything and anywhere. This drove my parents crazy, especially when I refused to allow them to throw away the cereal cartons until I had finished. At school, I excelled in English and was encouraged by both my family and teachers to consider a career in writing. However, like many teenagers around the world, I rebelled and wanted to follow my own path in life. After a year in University studying journalism I dropped out and moved to Belgium to work as an au pair.
There is nothing more guaranteed to bring an arrogant young person down to earth than hard manual work and within a year, I had decided that I would never be anyone’s servant. This decision led me into a professional career in nursing and midwifery in the NHS that lasted for more than 20 years. I achieved great success but had to leave my chosen field when my husband and I decided to live on a boat. Two years later health and family issues forced us back to Europe and soon afterwards that we bought a home in mainland Spain in addition to the UK.
I have always written for my own pleasure but never tried to publish anything until 2016 when in February my novel Silencio was published in paperback and ebook formats. Take a look at my website http://www.laberrynovels.org if you want to find out more about my longer works.
At present, I am working on several short stories, a play and a second novel. My sense of humour is a bit strange at times and often I like to put a twist at the end of my stories. I hope that you enjoy reading some of my work and I welcome any comments to help me improve. When asked what motivates me to write I can’t say. I just love to create stories.
